Mission Statement

“Providing everyone with a (professional) interest in aviation with up-to-date, complete and reliable authoritative information on airliner accidents and safety issues”

Content / scope

The Aviation Safety Network is a private, independent initiative founded in 1996. On line since January 1996, the Aviation Safety Network covers accidents and safety issues with regards to airliners, military transport planes, and corporate jets.
The ASN Safety Database contains detailed descriptions of over 23,000 incidents, hijackings, and accidents.

The primary sources of information are formal accident reports published by accident investigation authorities. If no report is available, we use secondary sources like aviation magazines and newspaper articles.

Harro became immersed in aviation since his first flight on an NLM Cityhopper Fokker F-28 in 1979 and began registering aircraft accidents in 1983. He started the Aviation Safety Network in January 1996 and became a go-to source for the aviation industry and journalists on aircraft accidents. Harro is currently a regular contributor to Piloot & Vliegtuig, the largest aviation magazine in the Netherlands and Belgium. In his spare time, he is a volunteer at Vliegend Museum Seppe (Flying Museum Seppe, located at Breda Airport – EHSE).

His primary mission is to keep the site working fine, checking the integrity and answering emails related to internet or the pages itself.
