Narrative:
North American AT-16 Harvard FX305: Ex-USAAF 43-34722. Delivered to the RAF in March 1945. Originally ordered as Lend-Lease from US, USAAF serials allocated. Order transferred to Canadian Mutual Aid; this contract was back-dated to some aircraft already delivered. Aircraft up to FX354/43-34771 had USAAF data plates fitted recording the USAAF serials which had been retrospectively cancelled

Delivered March 1948 to the RAF College, Cranwell as FAD-K. Written off (destroyed) 6 January 1950, due to structural failure in flight - lost both wings in dive while recovering from aerobatics at an altitude of 3,000 feet. Pilot flying solo - was killed.

Flight Cadet Sgt Alasdair Seton Hamilton BLACK (pilot) RAF: killed

The 20-year old pilot fatality was the stepson of Marshal of the Royal Air Force Arthur William Tedder, 1st Baron Tedder, GCB (11 July 1890 – 3 June 1967). Alasdair Seton Hamilton Black was the son of Marie (Toppy) Black (née Seton) whom Tedder had married in October 1943. That is, he was a child acquired by marriage, rather than his biological son.
